As we head to the NSW State Government polls on 25 March, the NSW Government and Labor opposition are making strong announcements in favour of renewables. Stride will continue to share relevant insights in the lead up and following the election.
The first tender round closed on 10 February, with financial bids from 16 shortlisted projects (a total of 4.3 GW generation and storage). Announcements are expected by April 2023. Development Assessment fee discounts, a new biodiversity offset system and transport requirements may interest renewable energy developers. Discounts for Development Assessment (DA) fees in REZs: there will be 30% discount on DA fees for all renewable energy and storage projects in the REZs, following a recent MOU signed between EnergyCo NSW
Following the Federal Government’s declaration of Gippsland as the first offshore wind zone in Australia, they are now inviting feedback on the Hunter Region as the next. (Illawarra is expected to follow in 2023.) There are also community and stakeholder information sessions. Consultation closes 28 April 2023.
The concept of a ‘black spot’ program is well-established, used to identify and mitigate trouble spots and improve outcomes in road safety, mobile coverage and many other fields. The idea is that by using local expertise to identify and assess priority projects, relatively minor works can lead to major benefits,
The NSW Government is dedicating $550 million in funding to the Renewables Manufacturing Fund and Low Carbon Product Manufacturing Fund to support renewable energy and low carbon products. Eligible projects include components for renewable energy such as wind towers, solar and batteries. Registrations of Interest closed 28 February 2023.
